3 Year Prison for Handbag Scam Defendant

Nancy Tan Pua of Daly City is the third and last defendant to be sentenced in a conspiracy to sell massive counterfeit designer handbags on eBay and at a retail store in Richmond, California. Along with two others, Pua hosted big eBay auctions of handbags they falsely claim as designer brands Prada, Fendi, Gucci and Christian Dior. In addition to that, they also sold handbags at the store Label Love on Pierce Street. The 50 year old defendant will face a 34 month term in federal prison after pleading guilty last year of fraud, wire fraud, trafficking in counterfeit goods and money laundering.
Nancy Pua is said to have acquired more $2 million from 2002 to 2003 from thousands of eBay shoppers having them wired to different accounts in China, Switzerland and Malta “with the intent to promote the sale on countefeit goods.”
Johnny Lee Tan, Pua’s brother was sentenced last year to 18 months after pleading guilty to laundering more than $210,000 while Pua’s son, Kevin, was also sentenced last year to a 5 year probation due to conspiracy. Refer to earlier post entitled Counterfeit Scandals.
