Louis Vuitton Malletier, SA part of LVMH luxury goods group of empires won a $1 million worth of lawsuit dated June 19 against a Canadian accessories retailer that sold counterfeit handbags and wallets of the said trade name.

This is apparently the largest trademark and counterfeiting case in Canada, the Supreme Court of British Columbia said in a statement.

“The judges have sent a strong message to counterfeiters that their illegal activities will not be tolerated by the Canadian courts,” as per LVMH intellectual property director Nathalie Moulle-Berteaux.

Paris based LVMH filed a lawsuit in November 2006 after investigators were able to gather evidence that Wynnie Lee Fashion, also registered as 46353 B.C. Ltd. has been selling counterfeit merchandise over the last 6 years in three separate malls. The proprietor of this retail store has earlier breached a cease-and-desist order and would have to pay a whopping $20,000 for each infringement.
